STORY
As an architect I always strived to explore various recycled materials to design furnitures and other decor like carpets, lights, wallpapers. It was very hard to source a recycled material and even harder to find the right material and right quantity.
It was an idea I pondered upon since then and brought it to life through this case study with much more ambitious thoughts added.
I created three characters based on the user surveys and research. These represent the major type of users the product is designed for. Three different interfaces are required based on the personas
RECYCLER INTERFACE
RECYCLING CENTER
MARKETPLACE
After understanding the complete cycle of recycling a product and reusing it, I felt the need for illustrating it step by step. This became helpful in identifying the steps which can be completed with the EcoXchange platform. The illustration of the complete cycle proves the need for a integrated digital system with various interfaces which can be interlinked.
I created various wireframes for the phone app and the dashboard visualising various scenarios and user needs. I experimented with the features to be added for scheduling/rewards and dashboard functions, this exercise laid out clear frames to develop further
A clean and communicative logo and brand colors were designed. Its the branding that interacts with the user primarily even before using the product, hence keeping it easy and friendly was the focus
Translating all the research, wireframing and prototyping experiments into fine visuals with flows that are super easy
A welcome board which explains the purpose of the product both verbally and pictorially and takes the user through the primary functions of the application in 4 quick clicks
Dynamic home screen that keeps the user updated on their upcoming pickups, rewards and also the status of their previous pickups. This enables the user to have a glace of their status on everyday basis
ECO-POINTS
Introduced ecopoints as a form of reward that can be used in various other platforms like the in built marketplace, fuel station, groceries etc.
Scheduling a waste pickup for recycling in just 4 taps, with easy to read interface and graphical representation of options to choose from at every tap. Reminder feature at the final steps avoids user the pain of remebering every date of pickup
Marketplace depicts the whole purpose of the application as one can purchase products that are made from their own waste or others, it brings us to the full circle. The user experience is enhanced with context specific data on display and introducing eco points becomes a game changer and is reflected here
The interface in again clean and graphical which makes it easy to understand for the user. Goals are tracked with a tree scale as a representational humour : growing a tree
The third interface and context, also the admin is the recycling center dashboard. The home screen of the dashboard gives the ideal amount of data regarding all the processes of recycling, pickups scheduled, sales and overall comparisons over the year and month
Tracking processes and status can be one of the most boring jobs, so making it dynamic by providing the user a choice between a detailed list and a brief timeline of what's happening today, over the week or the month too enhances and lightens the data overload
